What is happiness?

It is the quality or state of being happy and what is a state?
It is the condition of a person or thing, as with respect to circumstances. Every day  we are bombarded by situations that take a toll on our 'state' or 'condition.' We spend thousands to provide petty luxuries to ensure our happiness...so tell me, if something is only presented as a state or condition, how can we invoke it by material (physical) possessions?

We tend to fall slaves to our senses, and desire overwhelms our beings driving us to cravings.

The man dwelling on sense objects develops attachment for them; from attachment springs up desire, and from desire (unfulfilled) ensues anger. From anger arises infatuation; from infatuation, confusion of memory; from confusion of memory, loss of reason; and from loss of reason one goes to complete ruin and becomes delusional.

Happiness tends to be synonymous to peace of mind  and this is achievable through a simple yet very difficult step;  by giving up and truly renouncing our desires and moving free from attachment, egoism, and thirst for pleasure, we,  not can, but  WILL  attain  peace of mind.
